Video Scriptwriting: Decoding Chile's Proposed Eco-Constitution

The Challenge

Chile’s constitutional process in 2022 aimed to create an “eco-constitution,” incorporating unprecedented environmental protections. This complex topic needed to be explained to a broad Latin American audience in an engaging and accessible manner. The challenge was to:

  • Distill complex constitutional and environmental concepts into brief, engaging videos
  • Cover a range of topics from natural resource management to animal rights
  • Create content that was both informative and captivating for a diverse audience
  • Highlight the potential implications of this groundbreaking constitutional approach

The Solution

As a Scriptwriter and Researcher for the “La Borrasca” (The Squall) video series, I developed a comprehensive approach:

  • In-Depth Research and Analysis:
    • Conducted extensive research on Chile’s constitutional process
    • Analyzed proposed environmental clauses and their potential impacts
    • Consulted with legal and environmental experts for accurate interpretation
  • Creative Scriptwriting:
    • Crafted 8 video scripts, each 3-4 minutes long
    • Developed narratives that balanced factual information with engaging storytelling
    • Collaborated with award-winning journalist María Paulina Baena to tailor content to her presenting style
  • Topic Coverage:
    • Addressed key environmental themes including:
    • Natural resource management
    • Animal and nature’s rights
    • Water rights and management
    • Environmental governance structures
  • Accessibility and Engagement:
    • Used clear, jargon-free language to explain complex concepts
    • Incorporated visual metaphors and analogies to enhance understanding
    • Ensured each video could stand alone while contributing to the broader series narrative
