E-book Editing: Understanding Challenges and Opportunities of Multilateralism in Latin America
The Challenge
The complex landscape of multilateralism in Latin America requires a comprehensive, multi-perspective analysis accessible to policymakers, academics, and the general public. The challenge was to:
- Curate diverse expert voices on various aspects of multilateralism in the region
- Create a cohesive narrative across multiple chapters and topics
- Balance academic rigor with accessibility for a broader audience
- Coordinate contributors from multiple countries and backgrounds
The Solution
As the Editor of “Tejiendo lazos: el futuro del multilateralismo en América Latina” (Weaving links: the future of multilateralism in Latin America), I developed a comprehensive approach:
- Research and Expert Engagement:
- Conducted extensive research on multilateralism in Latin America
- Identified and contacted experts from various countries and fields
- Conducted interviews to shape the e-book’s structure and content
- Editorial Management:
- Edited articles submitted by contributors, ensuring consistency and clarity
- Wrote the conclusion chapter, synthesizing key insights from all contributions
- Curated and edited content for eight chapters covering diverse aspects of multilateralism
- Visual and Layout Coordination:
- Selected appropriate images to complement the text
- Coordinated with designers on the visual layout of the e-book
- Chapter Curation:
- Oversaw the development of eight chapters (titles translated to English):
- “Towards a 3M regional governance: multilateral, multi-level, and multi-actor”
- “Navigating turbulent waters: Regional integration of Latin America and the Caribbean amid US-China competition”
- “Covid-19: An opportunity for multilateralism in Latin America?”
- “Central American multilateralism in the face of nationalist retreat”
- “Why multilateralism is necessary for nature conservation”
- “The future of the sea is multilateral”
- “The Escazú Agreement and the struggle of women environmental rights defenders”
- “Migration, a regional challenge”
