Countering Men's Health Care Stereotypes: Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign

The Challenge

DaVinci Health needed to address the critical prostate and testicular cancer awareness issue in Malta during November 2021 (Movember). The challenge was to overcome deeply ingrained barriers to men’s health screenings while:

  • Confronting cultural stereotypes that prevent men from seeking preventative care
  • Reframing health consciousness as a masculine strength rather than a weakness
  • Educating the Maltese male population about cancer warning signs
  • Converting awareness into screening appointments at DaVinci Health
  • Communicating sensitive health topics in a direct yet approachable manner

The Solution

As the Copywriter for Room4 Media’s campaign for DaVinci Health, I developed a comprehensive approach:

  • Strategic Messaging Framework:
    • Created the “Real Men Get Checked” campaign theme, challenging harmful stereotypes
    • Developed messaging that positioned health consciousness as a sign of strength and responsibility
    • Established a tone balancing medical seriousness with approachable, sometimes humorous content

  • Multi-Channel Content Development:
    • Produced 15 engaging social media publications and carousel posts featuring statistics, symptoms, and screening information
    • Developed a 3-part newsletter series addressing myths, risk factors, and personal screening stories
    • Scripted a compelling 30-second video emphasizing that “Taking care of your health is also a man’s thing”

  • Content Focus Areas:
    • Normalizing conversations about men’s health and cancer screenings
    • Early warning signs that should prompt medical consultation
    • The role of partners and family members in encouraging health check-ups
    • DaVinci Health’s discreet, professional screening process
